FIRE ACADEMY
This is the basic class layout. Use to fit to your department. We did this with overkill in mind for safety
(if we thought it would take 3 firefighters to do this we had 5 firefighters)
1st class- Chiefs opening remarks, intro's- candidates / firefighters, Locations - restrooms, phones, parking, ect. Fees - material, fuel, shirts, dinner, ect. Weekly evaluations- be critical to better the academy, ask questions. Sign & witness the liability release Goal & history of CFA & UCFD. Equipment & Stations - video. FF's job - video & demo (full gear ! air pack). Cost of - manpower ,equipment ,FD, ect. UCFD programs - "SAVE LIVES & PROTECT PROPERTY" Firefighting, 1O-46's , rescues , off-duty response , poster contest training program ! TCFF , smoke detectors , fire prevention civic groups , safety inspections , (business & residential), Tour - CFS & station #2 (drinks & snacks at #2).
2nd class- Classroom / smoke house - full fire gear , air pack , (explanation) 2 barrels of hay for heat & fog machine for visual effect - PPV - candidates in gear crawl through smoke house with 2 firefighters and two safety firefighters.
3rd class- Classroom / hydrant / streets / - (explain hose use) - flow water from plug to master streams and to handlines for candidates to operate (2FF's with each student) allow students to ride in E-8 , E-9 , T-2 jumpseats (drive E-4) two firefighters on each hose line with each student.
4th class- Classroom & training grounds - portable fire extinguisher use & operations. Basics of sprinkler
systems , & HazMat - (CAMEO). Build small fire in a barrel with cardboard for them to put out with ; water, dry chemical extinguisher
5th class- Classroom / training grounds - Ground ladder operations & CPR(basic)demonstration and practice. With ground ladders show how to setup and climb also show how to setup dome raise and climb the ladder let some students climb the ladders always with safety in mind.
6th class- Classroom / Davy Crocket - T-2 set-up and operations , & Rescue from roof of a tall building. Stokes basket rescues from top of fire station .
7th class- Classroom & training grounds - Arson - State Arson Investigator Bob Pollard & PAX
8th class- Classroom / training grounds - vehicle extrication - Hows & Whys - hands on for students keep it simple they are not in this line of work and use all safety precautions! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Graduation- Dinner - CFA T-shirts , certificates , Address by State Fire Marshall Robert Frost.
